NATIVE AMERICAN DOLL W/ BEADS & BANDOLIER BAG , 1930SSouthwest US, New Mexico, probably Zuni or Navajo, ca. 1930s. A handmade doll representing a Native American brave, skillfully constructed of muslin and dressed in traditional garments including a tunic with cut tin and turquoise glass bead 'buttons' down the front, split Spanish trousers with revealed red tassels hanging from the knees to the ankles , and felt boots adorned by metallic buttons. The brave is also decorated with 'turquoise' earrings; a multistrand necklace comprised of red and turquoise glass beads; a belt comprised of red, white, blue, black, and white glass beads featuring bird, arrow, and tipi motifs as well as the inscription "H2+NM" (NM presumably for New Mexico) at one end; a bandolier bag and strap trimmed with cut tin ornaments that are further adorned by turquoise glass beads; and a red fabric headband. Finally, the doll's visage presents with embroidered facial features and is crowned by a full head of black 'hair'. A very special example. Size: 23.25" H (59.1 cm)

Condition:
Expected age wear with normal tears and stains to clothing and a few losses to metallic buttons on boots, red tassels, and beads adorning bandolier strap. Still, a very nice example and the "H2+ NM" inscription on the beaded belt is interesting as well.
