Glazed, matted and presented in a brass studio frame. Keith Haring is widely regarded as one of the most recognized names in Graffiti and Pop Art. He achieved his first public attention with chalk drawings in the subways of New York. His first solo exhibition was held at the Tony Shifrazi Gallery in New York and was immensely popular and critically acclaimed. Throughout his career, Haring devoted much of his time to public works, which often carried social messages with their powerful imagery. The "Crack is Wack" mural of 1986 has become a landmark along New York's FDR Drive. Other projects include a mural created for the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty in 1986, on which Haring worked with 900 children; a mural on the exterior of the Necker Children's Hospital in Paris, France in 1987; and a mural painted on the western side of the Berlin Wall three years before its fall. During his brief but intense career, Haring's work was featured in over 100 solo and group exhibitions. He was highly sought after to participate in special projects and collaborated with artists and performers such as Madonna, Grace Jones, Jenny Holzer and Andy Warhol. His work was closely associated with the artistic traditions of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas with its powerful visual language and messages of social consciousness.

And he was one of three American artists invited to lecturer at the Muju International Art Symposium, Muju, Korea. He retired in 2006 after forty years of university teaching, and is a Professor Emeritus of Art, Indiana State University. As a teacher, he received the 'Caleb Mills Award for Distinguished Teaching' from Indiana State University. And was awarded a 'Teaching Fellow' by the Center for Teaching and Learning, Indiana State University. He received the 'Excellence in Teaching Award' from the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' at their annual conference in San Diego, California, in March, 2003 (This was one of only seven awards in teaching that NCECA had presented up to that time in their thirty-six years of existence). He has been a member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts since 1967. And he was president of NCECA for two years. And he was awarded the 'Fellowship of the Council' by this organization in 1977. He received the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University and the Master of Fine Arts degree from Alfred university, the New York State College of Ceramics.
