RARE CHUPICUARO POTTERY HEART
RARE CHUPICUARO POTTERY HEART SHAPED VESSELPre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A rare heart-shaped bowl handmade and pinched into this unique form. The bowl is slip painted with a dark red-umber hue that extends into the basin as well. The base is rounded but stable and the slightly rounded rim forms a gentle point; opposite it is a similarly gentle indentation. This charming piece displays nice burnishing marks and scattered mineral deposits on the interior! Size: 3.5" L x 2.75" W (8.9 cm x 7 cm)
Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
