MAYA BLACKWARE TRIPOD JAR W/ INCISED MONKEY MOTIFPre-Columbian, Guatemala, probably Tiquisate region, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A lovely pottery jar exhibiting a rounded base and slanted walls that flare gently outwards to a broad, annular rim, all sitting upon 3 petite feet. Enveloped in a rich black slip, the ancient vessel boasts incised decoration on its exterior consisting of 2 seated monkeys, both shown in profile facing left. Each animal is encased by a pair of vertical striations on either side, while 2 horizontal bands adorn the area just below the rim. Size: 5.8" Diameter x 3.9" H (14.7 cm x 9.9 cm)

Condition:
Repair to side with break line and adhesive just barely visible in areas. Chip to rim. Some nicks, pitting, abrasions, and root marks. Otherwise, excellent with great remaining detail.

INCA POST-CONQUEST BLACKWARE DOUBLE PORTRAIT VESSELSouth America, Peru, Inca, Post-Conquest Period, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A hand-built and highly burnished blackware pottery vessel with a planar base, a bulbous, apple-shaped body, and a cylindrical spout surmounted by a thick, slightly everted rim. Depicted on the vessel's body are a pair of stylized portraits with almond-shaped eyes beneath heavy lids, triangular noses, full lips, and cupped ears adorned with lengthy earrings. Incised vertical striations along the vessel's shoulder represent the faces' broad coiffures. Size: 4.375" W x 6.8" H (11.1 cm x 17.3 cm)

Condition:
Repair to spout at top of body with light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions, softening to finer details, and light fading to black pigment. Nice preservation to facial details of both portraits.
