EDWARD BERGE, MADELINE & GARY BLACK BRONZE PLAQUE (Baltimore, 1876-1924). Large bronze relief plaque with two of the children of William Van Lear Black (1875-1930), depicted are Madeline age three and Gary age four with their collie dog, signed "Edward Berge 1919" with Gorham Foundry Mark, 51 in. H., 47 1/2 in. W. William Van Lear black, was chairman of the board of the A.S. Abell company(publishers of the Baltimore Sun), and an early aviation pioneer. He helped to finance Richard Byrd's Antarctic flight. Mount Black in Antarctica is named for him. He died in 1930 in a boating accident and his body was never recovered.
