HENRY PARLEE PARKER (UK, 1795-1873) "The First Day of Oysters", oil on canvas, unsigned, but with original handwritten label pasted to stretcher giving title and indicating "By Parker from Lord Lindsay's Collection", depicting a small group of people gathering in the dooryard of an inn enjoying the fresh harvest. (Possibly from the collection of Major General Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune, 1st Baronet dejure, 9th Earl of Lindsay, 1787-1851.) Another later label verso appears to read, "W.H. Johnson, Jan 11 '96." Housed in the original gold painted matched corner gesso cove frame, OS: 16" x 18", SS: 7 1/2" x 9 1/2". Good condition.
