A Confederate parole document for
A Confederate parole document for one F. J. Miller of Company H, Mosby's Battalion, issued at Winchester, Virginia in April 1865. Mosby's Battalion, also known as Mosby's Rangers, and formally as the 43rd Virginia Cavalry Battalion, was a unit of partisan cavalry of the Confederate Army in the American Civil War, led by Col. John Singleton Mosby. It conducted lightning raids, disrupting Union communication and supply lines. Two small holes affecting a little text.

1784 hand-drawn Virginia map, "Rough Sketch of 32,000 acres of land in Montgomery County in Virginia Surveyed for Mr. Levi Hollingsworth of Philadelphia in the Year 1784", signed by Dorsey Pentecost, showing 32 tracts of land along the Guyandotte River, south of where it meets the Ohio River in modern day West Virginia, additional notes describe the land, navigation routes, types of trees present, and its proximity to the "fertile settlements of Caintucky [sic]", on laid paper with watermarks, 23 x 19 in. Toning, fading, foxing, soiling, stains, creases with separations, tears and losses (affecting text and signature). Property of a Descendant of Anthony Morris of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

EXTREMELY RARE SILVER AND HORN DRINKING VESSELEngraved with geometric designs and Tom Higgins U.S. Rangers Kentucky 1814''. Tom Higgens (1790-1883) was a U.S. Ranger under the command of Lt. John Journey at Hills Fort in Bond County Illinois. On August 20 1814 in a fight with a group of Indians some in the company were killed instantly and others ran back to the fort. Higgins remained to defend a wounded Ranger. He took multiple bullets stabbings and nearly lost an ear in his singular battle with three Indians. He finally shot one and brained another. While preparing to fight off the third more Rangers came to his aid led by a woman who had been watching from the garrison. Later in life Higgins was door-keeper to the Illinois House of Representatives while maintaining a farm and raising a large family. Height 4''. Length 5''. Provenance: Descended in the consignor's family for more than 85 years.''
