Newcomb College Pottery High-Glaze Vase, decorated by Maria Levering Benson, 1907, and bearing the potter's mark of Joseph Fortune Meyer, featuring an elaborate incised carved floral design of spent white long-stem roses on a midnight blue ground, h. 5-3/4". Miss Benson was invited to take charge of a department in the National Arts and Crafts School in Washington, D.C. in 1908. Examples of her work were shown at the Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.
