AL BLACK HIGHWAYMAN, PENCIL
AL BLACK HIGHWAYMAN, PENCIL SKETCH #2Al "Blood" Black was a major member of the Highwaymen artist movement, selling oil and acrylic paintings of Florida wilderness scenes along the road shoulder of Hwy. #1 in Eastern Florida, primarily during the 1960s. Little is known about Al; he is still painting and selling. In the early days he primarily sold other highwaymen's paintings and repaired their artworks if damaged. Thus he learned all their palettes and started painting for himself. He paints the obligatory sunset scenes, but in less vivid color, creating a more serene feeling. Al was arrested and jailed locally for fraud and drug charges during his career, and this colored pencil drawing/study was made by him while he was in prison. He pressed hard with his pencils; their marks and his signature are now "embossed" on the reverse. The drawing is signed, and has his "mark" on it: three birds flying close to each other, standing for the Holy Trinity. Drawing measures 18" x 12". A unique Highwaymen piece of art. There is a similar second drawing of his in this auction. shipping info This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice.
