Four incised lines around the upper shoulder followed by a sine wave and another four incised lines and another sine wave below the midsection of the jar. Unglazed base. 13 1/2" H x 10" dia. Possibly Knox County, TN, Mid 19th century. 2nd item: East Tennessee stoneware pottery storage jar, pulled lug handles, two bands of rectangular stamps on upper shoulder and an unusual band of rectangular stamps to the underside of rim. Glazed base. 12 1/2" H x 7 1/2" dia. Knox County, third quarter of the 19th century.
Both forms descended through the Weigel family Powell Station farm of Powell (Knox County, TN).
Condition:
1st item: Earthenware jar in fair condition with a crack running circumference of jar (glued, stable). Several areas of glaze flakes and chips/pitting to the walls of the vessel. 2nd item: Overall very good condition with a chip to the rim and a few glaze flakes to base edge.
