Large Chinese Burial Figure of a Horse, Han dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.), in two parts, the heavily muscled body with a broad rump, the underside of the body with four slots for inserting the original wooden legs (now lacking as the wood would have deteriorated in the burial chamber),the detachable head and neck with open mouth and alert eyes, the entire body covered with a white slip and showing traces of painted decoration under considerable burial encrustation, h. 16-1/4", l. 22".
