The first is a single edged 12" blade with crude engravings and a relief carving of a four-legged animal near the base, possibly a horse. It is mounted to a silver handle with shell inlay. It is in overall fair condition with heavy surface rust and a few knicks to the blade. The second is a double-edged 11" dagger with a brass and carved horn handle. It is far simpler in its design and is in overall fair condition some gouges and numerous knicks and chips along one edge.

The blade iron proof etched with "U.S." within a floral panel, the opposite side etched with eagle and shield with patriotic banner. Iron hilt and scabbard, the later engraved with what appears to be a period inscription "Presented to Lt. Matthew Hardie by the men of Tx 28th Cav Co E" in four line inscription. Very good overall.
