Condition:
Some expected chew marks and holes, fading at edges, the black paper with a surface stain, expected surface wear and tone, and overall in good condition, wear commensurate with historically noted poor storage conditions of the original printings. Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008)
Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008) Mid-century modern illustration depicting (2) young women in an interior with one seated in a mid-century designer chair c 1960s, gouache on illustration board, signed "Mark Miller", 20" x 23-1/2", good condition. Mark Miller was a prominent and prolific American illustrator in the Golden Age of illustration in the 1940s-1960s. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts) and was hired as a wardrobe sketch artist for 20th Century Fox. He later became an advertising and magazine story illustrator with his work appearing in McCall?s, Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Woman?s Day and Saturday Evening Post. Many of his works were handled by agencies in New York City including Charles E. Cooper, Harry Watts Inc., and American Artists Agency. He also created a partnership with artist Dan Crowley. In the 1960s he decided to set aside his art to become a winemaker. He was the founder of Benmarl Vineyards. All Illustrations are acquired from the artist?s collection.
