THE ROBERT MOSES ASHLEY SIDEBAORD, possibly the workshop of William Lloyd, cherry two board top with nicely beaded inlaid edge, bowed and serpentine mahogany front with diamond and oval inlays, tapered legs with inlaid cuffs, old and likely original brass, 38.5”H x 73.5”W x 29.5”D. Literature attached to the back of the top drawer, Provenance: This sideboard descended through the family of General Moses Ashley, born 1749 in Westfield MA, died 1791 in Lee MA. Gen, Ashely was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, there are several letters from him to General George Washington in the National archives, His letter can be viewed online. General Ashley is also known for his highly detailed watercolor battle plan to defend West Point. This rare document, discovered at an estate sale in 2018 was purchased and restored by Historic Deerfield and is now in their collection. This sideboard was handed down to the eldest son of Robert Moses Ashley born in 1782 Stockbridge MA and died in 1854 in Ohio. WHEN ROBERT MOSES ASHLEY RELOCATED TO NORTHERN OHIO IN 1832 HE BROUGHT THIS SIDEBOARD WITH HIM AS REFERENCED ON THE PARCHMENT NOTE ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE DRAWER WRITTEN BY MRS CHASE HOWLAND IN 1929.
