Robert Hudson (1938 USA) Untitled
Robert Hudson (1938 USA) Untitled No. 91973Earthenware; ht. 7.5 dia. 6.5 in.Hudson is a well-known Bay area sculptor working in multi-media and metal and known for his use of color. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute obtaining his BFA in 1962 and his MFA in 1963. This work comes from one of the most important exhibitions from the 1970's his 1972-1973 collaboration with ceramist Richard Shaw. Critic Peter Schjeldahl wrote of this work "The achievement of Hudson and Shaw was the perceive the limitation of the ceramic object as a thing of if not domestic function domestic scale and feeling and to realize within that limitation a maximum creative freedom. There is a kind of dreamlike abstract logic to these works a blend of nonchalance and inevitability."?References:San Francisco Museum of Art Robert Hudson/Richard Shaw Work in Porcelain.
