  Marie Atkinson Hull (American/Mississippi 1890-1980) "Loquats" oil on canvas board signed lower right titled and signed en verso 16 in. x 19 7/8 in. in a period frame. Note: Botanical still lifes were a favored theme in Marie Hull's work from the 1920s and 30s. She always depicts a single type of plant material in a vase or pot. The work offered shows loquat branches in a Chinese vase. All of her still life paintings demonstrate her ability to achieve balance in composition and color. Also known as Japanese plum Hull depicts this fruit in various states of ripeness aesthetically contrasted against a green ground.
