DOREMUS N.Y" and has additional patent information. ht. 37.5 wd. 21.5 dp. 23 in.?George Hunzinger?(1835-1898) was a German-born American furniture designer whose innovative work depended as much on his mechanized manufacturing process as it did on his patents. He was known for his novel patented designs like the woven wire utilized in this chair and for his emphasis on interchangeable parts. According to Barry Harwood's The Furniture of George Hunzinger: Invention and Innovation in Nineteenth-Century America p. 102 this interchangeability of parts is apparent in many of his side rocking and armchairs that make use of the woven-wire patent. Hunzinger was a truly forward-thinking innovator and his chair designs seem to anticipate modern aesthetics with their tendency toward abstraction resemblance to the machines that produced them and emphasis on interchangeability.
