An illustration for "The Hurricane" by Charles Nordhoff and Jas. Norman Hill. Appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post", Jan 11th, 1936. Caption: "The Wind is at east. There will be no danger of capsizing". In a replica gold gesso frame with linen cove, OS: 44" x 32", SS: 35 1/2" x 23 1/2", painting is in fine condition, stain to frame linen.

Born in Pontiac Michigan in 1952. He had served with the U.S. Military for over seven years and after his service, moved to the art world. Tom Freeman is a well known artist for his works in naval history, generally watercolors and acrylics. Over the span of his career, he had attracted much attention and was asked to display collections of his works in the Vatican, the Clandestine Immigration and Naval Museum in Haifa, Israel, and the Royal Palace of Bahrain. In 1986 Tom was asked to display his works in the White House where they currently reside.

Provenance: Purchased at Rodrigue Gallery Carmel California; reproduced in the Rodrigue annual calendar. Note: George Rodrigue began his Hurricane Series after the 2002 storm season during which the artist witnessed a hurricane topple a 100-year old live oak tree in his yard. The Hurricane Series in which Rodrigue generally depicts the storms as colorful spirals has continued throughout his work of the 21st century and was a major part of the Retrospective Exhibition of 2008 at the New Orleans Museum of Art George Rodrigue's Louisiana: Forty Years of Cajuns Blue Dogs and Beyond Katrina.
