ANTIQUE INDIAN RED SANDSTONE FIGURINE An antique Indian red sandstone figurine. This ancient shapely carved female figure is seated with legs crossed off to her left side, her left arm resting on her knee. She appears to have large disc earrings. With flat bottom and figurine can stand on its own.

Condition: good condition overall with losses and chips and wear due to nature of sandstone

GROUP OF INDIAN ARTICLES, CARVED FIGURE & PAINTING A group of Indian articles; five carved figures and a framed painting. Framed painting has thick decorative border and an architectural scene with multiple figures at different levels of the structure, some standing and kneeling. The carved figures are all standing and made for hanging on wall. Three are colorful with bold colors and musical instruments. Smaller figures also have instruments. Painting: sight: H. 14" (35.5 cm), W. 10" (25.4 cm) Taller wooden figures: 11 1/2" (29.2 cm), Smaller colorful figure: 10" (25.4 cm), Two darker figures: H. 9" (22.8 cm) Condition: good condition overall for age and use, with some losses to the painted figures.

INDIAN EFFIGY FIGURE. Cochiti late 19th-early 20th century earthenware. Large standig figure with molded nose and ears outstretched arms and painted decoration. 9 1/2''h. Collected by Charles Shanafelt ca. 1900. Both arms broken and reglued flakes to one ear very minor slip flakes retains an old label. Charles Shanafelt (b. 1855) was the senior member of the brickmaking firm of Shanafelt and Keurt. He collected the Cochiti figures offered here about 1900 and about 1915 they were placed in the ''relic room'' of an Ohio county courthouse. They remained there until later in the twentieth century they were transferred to a local historical institution. That institution has deaccessioned this collection and is selling it to further its mission.
