SEMINOLE INDIAN BUSTS BY H. DAVIS
SEMINOLE INDIAN BUSTS BY H. DAVIS (2)Two painted chalk (plaster) busts, a male and a female Seminole Indian. Helen Davis, a sculptress working at the Community House of Coral Gables in 1935, created these busts as part of a WPA project and the Florida Art Project. She gave them to her students for painting. Chalk is notoriously fragile and prone to paint chipping, but these busts have only a very few fleabites. However, the male broke his neck and his head has been glued back in place. The repaired break has not had its slightly chipped edges repainted. It is not very noticeable. The busts are around 8" high.
