George III Pewter Standish, dated 1791, of rectangular form, divided by a lengthwise "piano" hinge, one side opening to a pens compartment, the other opening to two covered inkwells flanking a central pounce compartment, the lid of each inkwell compartment with wrigglework decoration and initials "JP", lifting to reveal a glass inkwell, the whole raised on four ogee-domed feet and engraved on the underside with the inscription "John Penn 1791", h. 2-1/4", w. 8-1/8", d. 4-3/4". For an identical example, see Peter Hornsby's Pewter of the Western World, 1600-1850 (Exton, Pennsylvania: Schiffer, 1983), p. 340, illustration 1175.
