Blued and case colored finish with brass bakstrap and triggerguard and varnished walnut grips. Condition: Very sharp and crisp revolver retaining 90+% of the original blue finish on the barrel; cylinder retaining 80% of the blue with a spot where the finish has a brown patina. Grips are excellent.

Purported to be from the collection of Lord and Lady Lansdowne and according to a 1961 newspaper, had hung in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Randolph in Shadyside, Kentucky.

Early 19th century author noted around the world for his American frontier stories such as The Last of the Mohicans. Framed group including: a check dated Nov. 7 1846 from the Otsego County Bank in Cooperstown NY signed J. Fenimore Cooper clearly in black ink; an engraving of Cooper bearing his facsimile signature; and the title page to his 1841 novel The Deerslayer.

J.M. COOPER POCKET MODEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Second model .31 caliber five-shot cylinder 6'' octagonal barrel walnut grips. S/n 433. This revolver bears a striking resemblance to the Colt Model 1849 pocket revolver even in the locations of the serial numbers. Mottled patina dings around the wedge bore with oxidation action a little stiff marks still fairly clear.
