James Earle Fraser (American, 1876-1953) "End of the Trail", patinated bronze sculpture, 1976 (verified by Modern Art Foundry, New York), inscribed "J. E. Fraser", "(c) #9 Syracuse University", and "Modern Art Fdry. N.Y.", mounted on a molded ovoid stained mahogany base, figure h. 18-1/2", w. 16-1/2", base h. 1-1/4", w. 16-3/4". Ex-collection: Dr. James W. Nelson, Gonzales, Louisiana. In addition to his famous 1894 sculpture "End of the Trail", Fraser also created many of America's great public monuments, including the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a large number of monuments, statues and architectural sculptures in our nation's capital.
