John Wesley Hardrick (American/Indiana 1891-1968) "Indiana Road Brown County" oil on board signed "J.W. Hardrick" lower right with a "Patricia Weiner Montgomery Ohio" label en verso 22 in. x 28 in. framed. Note: Indiana artist John Wesley Hardrick studied at the John Herron Art Institute with William Forsyth and Otto Stark both of whom were members of the famed Hoosier Group. As an African American artist Hardrick exhibited regularly with the Harmon Foundation earning a bronze medal for fine arts in 1927. In his stylized landscapes Hardrick uses a heightened color palette to create the tonal effect of leaves turning colors during the autumn months in the hilly terrain of Brown County Indiana.
