J.W. Benson English Mantle Clock Mid 19th Century London by J.W. Benson movement made and stamped Vincenti et Cie Medaille D'Argent dated 1855 and numbered 50517. Mantle clock of black stone machine wove design dial with Roman numerals gilt key wind with pendulum movement. Glass hinged cover on front back with reticulated metal cover. Applied bronze decoration on front including a classical relief on lower frieze gilt beveled feet. 18"T x 12-3/4"W x 7-1/4"D. Prov: from the collection of Frederick Hale McDuff.

Minute hash marks in black on the periphery. Blued steel spade type minute/hour hands. Lever type escapement, conventional bimetallic balance with mean screws. Key wind and key set. Beveled glass panels allow viewing of interior. Original velvet travel case. Clock is late 19th century. J. W. Bensen received royal patronage.
