2006 JAGUAR XJ SUPER V8 This 2006
2006 JAGUAR XJ SUPER V8 This 2006 Jaguar Super V8 is a wonderful example of the Jaguar marque. A sizeable 4.2 Litre V8 is up front with a intercooled supercharger forcing air into the aluminum heads. The dense charge that it packs pushed the engine up to 400 hp and 408 lb/ft of tourqe making this a formidable touring car. But the real value of this car is in the interior. On the inside is a cream colored leather upholstery with wood accents. There are 4 climate zones; one for each passenger. Rear radio controls, headrest tv screens, integrated phone, and power rear seats make this quite the passenger's car as well. With 26,374 miles on the clock, this Jaguar has a lot of luxurious life left in her. VIN #SAJWA82C96TH05999

HUARI JAGUAR JAR, EX-CHRISTIE'S,
HUARI JAGUAR JAR, EX-CHRISTIE'S, EX-DENVER ART MUSEUMPre-Columbian, central highlands of Peru or Lake Titicaca region of Bolivia, Huari (Wari), ca. 6th to 9th century CE. A wonderful pottery jar in the form of a seated jaguar with a bulbous body, a tubular spout that extends from the animal's back, and a protruding head and tail, all sitting upon a gently rounded yet stable base. Enveloped in a warm hue of burnt sienna, the adorable animal is skillfully hand-painted with dozens of black and white spots, while all 4 limbs are shown in relief, wrapped around its bulging belly, with lengthy claws outstretched from each paw. The feline's sizeable head juts forward, displaying large, almond-shaped eyes, a rectangular nose, and a projecting snout with a wide mouth held open to expose gritted teeth and sharp fangs. A sinuous tail rises from the other end of the animal, curling outward at the tip and embellished by horizontal stripes. Size: 9.8" W x 9.2" H (24.9 cm x 23.4 cm)
The jaguar symbolized power and might throughout the Pre-Columbian world. Warriors, rulers, hunters, and shamans alike associated themselves with this king of beasts, the largest and most powerful feline in the New World. Furthermore, the principal god of the earlier Moche wears a headdress adorned with a jaguar head and paws, and important mortals donned similar headdresses. The Huari, having assumed much of the territory of the earlier Moche peoples, were most likely influenced by the Moche's practices and beliefs.
A nocturnal animal, the jaguar sleeps in caves and dark places and creeps quietly in the forest, evoking great mystery. So, oddly enough, few Moche and Huari artists would have actually seen jaguars as they are not indigenous to the coast. Jaguars prefer moist forest conditions. However, scholars believe that some cubs were transported over the mountains for Moche rituals, and it is also possible that some jaguars wandered down the coast.

MAYA POTTERY JAGUAR URN LID W/
MAYA POTTERY JAGUAR URN LID W/ BARED TEETHPre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A sizable and expressive urn lid, perhaps from a burial cache, depicting the head and upper body of a jaguar. The cylindrical body exhibits a pair of nubbin protrusions along the lower rim, likely where applied legs once resided, as well as a thick tail curling along the verso. The tapered form rises upwards to form the grand feline head that bears a pair of semicircular ears, a slender nose with flared nostrils, bulging hemispherical eyes, and an eye-catching mouth overflowing with 27 teeth. Size: 7.3" W x 11" H (18.5 cm x 27.9 cm)
The form of the jaguar was revered throughout the Pre-Columbian world as the mightiest wild feline as was used as a potent symbol of power and kingship. In Classic Maya art, the jaguar is associated with lordly might and as an avatar for the gods. Many rulers during this time took jaguar names: Shield-Jaguar and Bird-Jaguar, for example. One of the Hero Twins described in the Quiche book named Popol Vuh, the most famous Maya text, is named Xbalanque - which is almost certainly derived from the word for jaguar, "balam;" this twin is typically illustrated in art with jaguar pelt markings on his face and body.
