Trained at the Art Students League Dixon initially worked as an illustrator. The bulk of his career however was given to painting landscapes and maritime vistas. Dixon was a member of Allied Artists of America and the Salamagundi Club New York. His work has been exhibited in such esteemed venues as the Corcoran Gallery Washington D.
