4 JAZZ RELATED PORTRAITS BY JAMES CAULFIELDFour portraits of legendary jazz artists by James Albert Caulfield III (Michigan/Tennessee, 1946 -2010) including One (1) oil on board of Louis Armstrong with three band members (18 x 26-3/4); One (1) mixed media gouache and ink on board portrait of Art Tatum at the piano (10 x 8); One (1) mixed media gouache and ink portrait of Benny Goodman with a clarinet (10-1/2 x 9-1/4); One (1) woodblock limited edition print, #6/50, possibly a portrait of Ravi Shankar (11 x 8-1/2). All late 20th century. Biography James Albert Caulfield III was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived most of his early life in East Lansing until he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1985. As a child he loved to draw and sketch and received formal art training at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. He trained and worked as an illustrator and commercial artist and painted with watercolor and gouache in a "realistic controlled manner". In both Michigan and Knoxville he featured the local and regional material, people and places in his work. Provenance: Estate, James A. Caulfield, III.
Condition:
Overall very good condition with some surface abrasions and grime on oil painting.
