Proceeds benefit the James Sampson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Indiana State University. From his Obituary: Jim was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Lockport, New York. During his junior and senior year of high school, Jim won prestigious awards from General Motors, including a $5,000 Scholarship Award for Design in Fisher Body Craftsmen Guild. After completing high school, he began working for General Motors as an auto designer before becoming a student at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He went on to earn a BA Degree in Art in 1961 from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, studied sculpture at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and earned an M.A. Degree in Painting from Michigan State University in 1963. He studied ceramics and ceramics technology at Alfred University in 1964 before pursing an M.F.A. degree in sculpture from Michigan State University in 1967. Jims' academic career spanned the next three decades. He taught at various schools, including Wisconsin State University, Albion College, Indiana State University, Southern Illinois and the Gibault School for Boys. Jim taught at a printmaking workshop in Jamaica, and then as an Artist-in-Residence for the U.S. Government and the National Endowment for the Arts. Later in life, Jim continued to teach and mentor artists outside of traditional academia. In his late seventies and early eighties, Jim taught workshops and mentored printmakers at the Bloomington Print Collective in Bloomington, Indiana and continued to print at Obsolete Press, as well as on his hand made presses in his home studio. Throughout his career as an artist, Jim won many national awards and he exhibited his work throughout the country, including an Oversized Prints exhibition at Whitney Museum of Art in 1971, where his work hung next to Andy Warhol's. after Henry Raeburn (1756-1823) John Lamontoil on canvas (lined) likely a 19th century copy of the original half length portrait of an elderly Lamont (18th century chief of the Clan Lamont) presented in a period gilt composition frame with swept corners.Sir John Lamont became clan chief in 1767 and inherited the Ardlamont Estate in Argyllshire. In 1773 he married Helen Campbell with whom he had five children.Lamont enjoyed a busy social life in London and Edinburgh. In 1796 he purchased a town home designed by Robert Adam in Edinburgh's ''The New Town.'' JAMES REID LAMBDIN (1807-1889): PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN Oil on canvas relined signed J.R. Lambdin. 30 x 25 in. (sight) 38 x 33 in. (frame). Note: Lambdin was born in Pittsburgh and studied in Philadelphia with the miniaturist Edward Miles and then spent 3 years studying with Thomas Sully. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1826 and moved onto Louisville KY for 5 years and traveled through the South for portrait commissions. Between his return in Philadelphia in 1837 to open a studio to his death in 1889 Lambdin served as director of the PAFA and taught fine art at the University of PA.
