JANE (MORTELLITO) WASEY (ME/NY/IL/FRANCE, 1912-1992) Green Marble Anthropomorphic Sculpture, mounted on pine disc vase, signed on the underside. 5 1/4" x 7 1/4" x 4 3/4".
Ms. Wasey was born in Chicago and began her career at age 17 in Paris as the only female assistant to sculptor Paul Landowski. She worked with him on Christ the Redeemer, the 98-foot statue on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. In Maine, she is most remembered for her sculpture of "Andre the Seal", in Rockport Harbor.
