LARGE JAPANESE TRIPOD BRONZE
LARGE JAPANESE TRIPOD BRONZE CENSERDESCRIPTION: A large japanese tripod bronze censer with mythical kirin animal and large brown patina atop a tripod support ornate with a carved decoration of phoenix birds and blossoming tree branches. The large late censer, or incense burner, is elaborately cast, with fine and extensive details, and was most likely used in a Japanese temple setting. The tall censer of tripod form, set on an integral base, with a compressed globular body, large outward sweeping handles, and an openwork cover surmounted by a fierce kirin. The large, out swept handles decorated with a geometric design and surmounted by dragon masks. The bronze has a deep brown chocolate color patina finish. CIRCA: Early 20th Century. ORIGIN: Japan.
