A Jaques of London Staunton pattern boxwood and ebony chess set the Kings named and rooks and knight stamped with a red crown in mahogany box with re-applied paper label with a travelling bone chess set in folding mahogany box Kings 3.5in. Estimate ?400-500 All pieces do have weighted bases and have been re-felted to the underside. White side Small nick to the foot of the king. Black side. King lacking finial and cracked at base. Queen with some nicks at crown One of the knights is not weighted and not an original piece. Rook with a crack to the base. One pawn with a crack to the base. Label poorly applied to the underside of the lid suggesting that it may not be original to this box. Box with a crack to the lid. Travelling set: Box generally scratched and worn repaired breaks to both internal doors. Chess pieces a little tired but complete.
