Interesting Pair of Daguerreotypes, third quarter 19th century, consisting of a cased daguerreotype of Melinda Maguire Caldwell of Bonham, Texas, as a young woman, and a cased daguerreotype of her husband, the Reverend Filman Caldwell, w. 3-1/2", l. 4". The Reverend Caldwell contracted malaria during his ministerial duties in Shreveport, Louisiana, and died there.

CADWALLADER COLDEN, 1722 LETTERAn 18th Century personal letter from Cadwallader Colden to his wife. Colden was a Scottish physician educated in London before moving to Colonial Philadelphia. The British educated doctor moved to Pre Revolution New York with his wife after meeting Robert Hunter, then the Governor. Colden became a renowned botanist residing in the Hudson Valley area while acting as the Surveyor of Lands for N. Y. This letter shows his fondness for his wife. Dated February 1722 it asks her to "Send an ounce o f manna", possibly a Biblical reference asking for spiritual nourishment and gratification. This early American letter is on a single piece of paper folded in the Colonial style with the address "At New York" and the remnants of the wax seal. See ot 203. Overall approx. 12-1/2" L x 8" H.
