JACINT RIGAU-ROS I SERRA (CATALAN) AKA HYACINTHE RIGAUD (FRANCE, 1659-1743) Life-sized Portrait of a Gentleman who bears a strong resemblance to Sebastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban, 1633-1707, who served as architect to Louis XIV of France for over fifty years, was made Commissioner General of Fortifications in 1678. Rigaud was Painter to the King from 1659 to his death in 1743. Oil on canvas, unsigned. Unframed, with the old artist name tag taped verso, 55" x 41 3/4". Cleaned, very good condition.
French Catalan baroque painter most famous for his portraits of Louis XIV and other members of the French nobility.
