A tavern scene depicting the popular Shakespearean character John Falstaff. The period frame bears an engraved nameplate identifying the artist, and measures 48" x 40" x 3 1/2".
Condition
The canvas has been re-lined. Blacklight inspection reveals evidence of restoration including some small in-painted spots at the bottom center and a vertical over-painted line at the back of the woman's head, and an in-painted spot on Falstaff's sleeve.
