Thackeray standing on a rectangular plinth (1936.451) 21'' h.; the second depicting John Milton by Edward William Wyon (British 1811-1885) the figure standing resting left arm on a book on a pedestal signed ''E.W. Wyon/Fecit 1850'' mounted on a semi-circular plinth inscribed with quote from Book I of Paradise Lost ''Of Man's First Disobedience…'' (1940.659a) 10 1/4'' h. some loss/damage including a crack in Thackeray's left foot and missing fingers on Milton's right hand. NOTE: According to museum notes the Thackeray figure was made by Boehm of London. Acquired by the museum in 1936 and 1940 respectively. [Property of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art sold to benefit the acquisition funds]

Note: The prototype was created for the International Exhibition of Paris 1867.
