Condition: Barrel and magazine tube retaining 50% of the blue finish turning plum and mixing with some pitting. Frame retains 40% of the blue mixing with plum. Stock and forearm with some nicks and dings. Bore is dirty but will clean to better.

Winchester Model 1873 Rifle with Indian Tack Decorations .44-40 cal. 21" round barrel S/N 108481A. Walnut buttstock and forearm. Condition: Barrel has been shortened during its period of use. Animal hide strip was used to wrap the forearm. Brass decorates the buttstock and forearm. Rear barrel sight broke off and shows use. Barrel magazine tube and frame are a nice untouched patina. Stock and forearm?have been exposed to the elements. Tacks have nice patina with nice dark halos. Comes with an old tag where it was bought near Fort Smith Arkansas.

Left side of frame marked ''J.C. Howe Worchester Mass. 13''. Stocks are wood and checkered. Front blade sight is brass. S/n 13. Very unusual. Extremely heavy for its size. Bore has heavy grease coating so should be in good shape. Stock has some pieces missing. (probably due to the excessive weight).

WINCHESTER DELUXE MODEL 1873 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE. Second Model .44-40 caliber 28'' blued octagonal barrel set trigger checkered curly walnut stock. S/n 75737. Accompanying this rifle is a letter from the Winchester Arms Museum (dated 1985) indicating that this rifle was shipped from the warehouse on November 23 1881. Additionally there is a letter from Roan Auctions attesting to the fact that this rifle (which sold in their March 1985 auction) was from the estate of John Woods Rich of Woolrich Pennsylvania and that he was the original owner. Set trigger does work.

Magazine tube has 95% original blue finish with some browning where the slide rubs the tube. Frame is mostly brown with some case colors showing on the left side and on the triggerguard in the protected areas; the rest is blending to a nice patina. Stock and forearm have some nicks and dings but are untouched.
