ANTHONY WAYNE ADS: BILL FOR RIFLES, MARCH, 1776 Anthony Wayne (1745-1796, Major General in Revolutionary War) autograph document, signed: a bill to the Continental Congress, "for Rifles purchased from sundry persons for the use of Capt. Church's Company belonging to the 4th Battalion of Pennsa. Troops," for which he advanced cash during the month of March; he notes that he has yet to pay for about 30 more rifles "for want of cash." Mentions that Lt. Reid with 22 men, fully armed with rifles are away, "under direction of Silas Dean Esq.;" 1 p., flio, about 13 x 8 1/4 in.

Left side of frame marked ''J.C. Howe Worchester Mass. 13''. Stocks are wood and checkered. Front blade sight is brass. S/n 13. Very unusual. Extremely heavy for its size. Bore has heavy grease coating so should be in good shape. Stock has some pieces missing. (probably due to the excessive weight).

WINCHESTER DELUXE MODEL 1873 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE. Second Model .44-40 caliber 28'' blued octagonal barrel set trigger checkered curly walnut stock. S/n 75737. Accompanying this rifle is a letter from the Winchester Arms Museum (dated 1985) indicating that this rifle was shipped from the warehouse on November 23 1881. Additionally there is a letter from Roan Auctions attesting to the fact that this rifle (which sold in their March 1985 auction) was from the estate of John Woods Rich of Woolrich Pennsylvania and that he was the original owner. Set trigger does work.

Winchester Model 1873 Rifle .22 rimfire cal. short 24.5'' octagonal barrel S/N 302716B. Marked on the top flat of barrel 22 Short also on the cartridge carrier. Walnut buttstock and forearm. Condition: All metal is sharp and crisp. Barrel and magazine has a coat of shellac painted on the metal to preserve the metal underneath which it is a nice plum with traces of blue finish. Frame is sharp and crisp with a nice brown patina. Buttstock and forearm have a dark patina. Bore is good; will clean to better.

I. N. Johnston Model 1842 Pistol .54 cal. smoothbore 8.5" round barrel with proof marks at the breech on left side. Lockplate marked under the percussion bolster U.S. I. N. Johnston and in the rear of lockplate Middtn Conn 1854 in three lines. Condition: Barrel and hammer?are a dark brown with pitting. Stock is cracked?at the butt. Some old repairs behind the lock. Missing the ramrod and hammer screw is broke off. It is a well used pistol. Carved in the stock on the left side is "Holly To Bok."

Winchester Model 1873 Rifle with Indian Tack Decorations .44-40 cal. 21" round barrel S/N 108481A. Walnut buttstock and forearm. Condition: Barrel has been shortened during its period of use. Animal hide strip was used to wrap the forearm. Brass decorates the buttstock and forearm. Rear barrel sight broke off and shows use. Barrel magazine tube and frame are a nice untouched patina. Stock and forearm?have been exposed to the elements. Tacks have nice patina with nice dark halos. Comes with an old tag where it was bought near Fort Smith Arkansas.
