From 1982 to 1989 he was the Director of the National Portrait Academy in Toronto, Canada and from 1992 to 1995 the Assistant Director of the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. 1995 saw the establishment of his first school in Florence, Italy - the Angel Academy of Art. In 1997 he opened Michael John Angel Studios in Toronto, Canada. These portraits are oil on canvas board used as working figures for two large paintings commissioned in the 1970s by Sears, Roebuck for their International Headquarters located at 633 Pennsylvania Ave, Northwest, Washington, DC. The building was sold to the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. in 1996. Two large paintings still hang in the lobby of this building. If they are ever removed from this building they will be added to the permanent collection of The Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
