Fair. Coarse craquelure over surface with scattered areas of small paint loss, greatest right upper quadrant. 2.5" vertical cut in canvas in center. Canvas has some rippling and appears to have wear with possible tear at lower inner frame edge. Minor wear to frame. Joseph-Theodore Deck. A large faience jardiniere c.1880 painted in bright colours in the aesthetic style with a cockerel a bird in flight and butterflies amid flowers and leaves with floral and key fret moulded borders turquoise glazed interior the base with impressed 'TH.DECK' mark H.17.5in. 22in. diam.; wood stand. Estimate ?4 000-6 000 Crazing to glaze all over. scratching and wear to the glaze around the whole top rim to right of the cockerel there is a star crack which is approx. 19 x 20cm across. There are some overglazed firing cracks to the interior of the jardiniere which are consistent with manufacturing such a large piece. There are occasional vertical scratches to the exterior of the glaze. Foot rim appears to be good although there is felt stuck on the biscuit foot rim. Wood stand is later. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
