E. OLIVATTE “KALOPROSOPION, BEAUTIFUL DISGUISE” TRANSFO...E. Olivatte “Kaloprosopion, Beautiful Disguise” Transformation Playing Cards. London, ca. 1828. 52 + EC + OB. Excellent. Every card with the exception of the 9H was pirated from various packs of the Cotta transformation series. The face cards are all hand colored and were given names from Homer’s the Iliad and the Odyssey. There were two editions of this pack of which this is the first. Because buyers of the pack were confused as to which card was the king and which the jack the second edition (1829) the words “King, Queen and Knave” were added to the courts. The extra card included with this deck is quite unusual. Field, pg. 45.

Inscribed along the underside "Mr. and Mrs. Abner Meredith Harper. June eleventh, Nineteen hundred ten. Stamped along the underside "Sterling Hand Beaten at Kalo Shops Park Ridge Ills. 4897." The Kalo Shops were founded in Chicago by six young women: Clara Pauline Barck Welles, Bertha Hall, Rose Dolese, Grace Gerow, Ruth Raymond, and Bessie McNeal.

Condition:
The bowl is in great condition overall. There is one minute dent along the edge. No other dents or losses. Light scratches throughout, mainly along the interior of the bowl. The bowl has been polished. Some light wear along the underside.
