Knute Heldner (Swedish/New Orleans 1877-1952) "Plantation Louisiana" oil on board signed lower left pencil-titled en verso 19 7/8 in. x 15 7/8 in. framed. Note: This is a rare nocturnal scene by the noted Louisiana Impressionist painter Knute Heldner. Carefully rendered in shades of deep blue the lights inside the cabin glow brightly in the window and are reflected in the water. An African-American woman wearing a tignon tends to a fire near the front porch. This composition exhibits a superb tonalism rarely found in Heldner's work.
