KETLAND AND ADAMS LOCK ON 19TH MUZZLE LOADER 14.625" long Pistol is a marriage of a converted lock from a flintlock weapon from about 1820 or an original flintlock converted to percussion. Ketland generally used pins rather than barrel wedges which this firearm sports. Barrel has an 1860's proof mark, mostly likely an assemblage of different periods. Approximately .610 smoothbore.

Flintlock Kentucky Rifle .40 cal. 42'' barrel. Unmarked except lock marked Ketland D Adams. Brass furniture with daisy-style plain patchbox. Curly maple full stock. Condition: Barrel has nice smooth patina brown with some pitting around the touch hole and pan. Lock is sharp with nice untouched dark brown look. Brass furniture has been cleaned. Stock has an old crack through the front of triggerguard and pin that holds the triggerguard. A small piece of wood has been added on left side of barrel from the breech extending .5'' wide 4'' long down the barrel. Stock has a couple of old repairs.

Note: This firearm was purchased by our consignor in 1976 at an estate sale. At that time, it was said to have been brought back from the Texas War of Independence by a member of the Dickinson family of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Accompanying paperwork discusses the overall importance of this type of firearm in nineteenth century wars.
