LOUIS MARCHAND DES RAUX, FRANCE
LOUIS MARCHAND DES RAUX, FRANCE (1902-2000), EX-VOTO, OIL ON CANVAS, 24"H X 29"W, 26"H X 31"W (FRAME)Louis Marchand des Raux, France, (1902-2000) Ex-Voto, oil on canvas Signed lower right, signed and titled verso. Biography from Wikipedia: Louis Marchand, who will add the name of the place called Les Raux where he was born to his signature, initially had the dual vocation of gardener and painter. He exercised his first vocation with the owner of the Château de Beaujardin in Tours , Charles Liéron who introduced him to painting, then with Julia Daudet for the park of the Château de Pray located in Chargé , near Amboise 1 , who offered him rub shoulders with an artistic and scholarly society 2 . When Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild , wife of Maurice Ephrussi , donated her villa in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat to the Institut de France , the members of the Académie des beaux-arts appealed to Louis Marchand des Raux, they noticed at Julia Daudet, for the development and maintenance of the gardens which magnificently overlook the Mediterranean 2 . Louis Marchand des Raux then fully exercised his dual vocation, painting for the galleries of the Côte d'Azur and Paris where he rubbed shoulders with Henri Matisse , Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau and where the great collections of the United States were interested in his work 2 . Since 2018, a street in the town of Fondettes bears the name of the artist. oil on canvas Dimensions: 24"H x 29"W, 26"H x 31"W (frame)
