Femme Nue Couchee (Tournee a Droite) , 1906
1re planche (first plate)
Etching and drypoint on paper
5" x 7 1/2"
Signed with the artist's stamp to the bottom margin. Delteil 13, Stella 13. Presented behind glass in a frame that measures 12 1/4" x 14 3/4".
Of Renoir's three 1906 etchings of reclining nudes, Femme Nue Couchee (Tournee a Droit) is widely considered the most sophisticated, the linework softly elegant, rendered with a deftness astonishing for an artist who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. Femme Nue Couchee stands as among the finest of Renoir's etchings.
Provenance : Acquired from Sam Heller Fine Art (Chicago) in 2006, with accompanying Certificate of Authenticity.
Condition
A beautifully inked impression. Two very slight (>1/4") scrapes to the sheet: one to the figure's left arm, the other to the edge of the face. A single pale dot to the sheet's bottom margin. Gentle rippling (with no wrinkles). Not removed from the frame.
