APRIL GORNIK, NEW YORK, OHIO (B. 1953), SEASCAPE, 1996 , LITHOGRAPH IN COLORS, 21"H X 18"W (SIGHT), 30 3/4"H X 27"W (FRAME)April Gornik, New York, Ohio, (B. 1953) seascape, 1996 , lithograph in colors Numbered 41/100 lower left, signed and dated lower right. Biography from the Archives of askART: Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1953, April Gornik, a painter and printmaker in photo-realist style, received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1976. In 1978 she settled in New York City where she continues to live and work. Gornik refers to herself as "an artist that values, above all, the ability of art to move me emotionally and psychically. I make art that makes me question, that derives its power from being vulnerable to interpretation, that is intuitive, that is beautiful." In some cases, she uses photographs as inspirations for her paintings. She has work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the Cincinnati Museum, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, the Modern Art Museum of Art of Fort Worth, the Orlando Museum of Art, and other major public and private collections. Gornik's one-person shows include the Chase Manhattan Permanent Collection in London, England; the Frito-Lay Collection in Plano, Texas and the Nova Scotia Art Bank.
