WELSH LADY TELYNORES HARPIST HN4968 - ROYAL DOULTON FIG...She wears the traditional Welsh costume from late eighteenth century of a red jacket, tall black hat, long skirt, and a white apron. Playing the harp.
Traditionally worn by countrywomen, farmworkers, and servants, the dress was designed for durability. Today, the costumes are worn by many schoolgirls as part of the celebrations on St. David's Day. The Harp that accompanies this figure is recognized by many as the national instrument of Wales and its musical heritage is deeply entrenched in the Welsh culture. The Harp's popularity today reflects the desire to keep this musical legacy alive. Made of Bone China. Her Welsh name is "Y Gymraes Telynores". Royal Doulton backstamp. Box included, but not original. Limited edition number 1020 of 1,250 pieces. Series: Welsh Ladies.

Originally owned by prominent New York City Judge William Moore a lifetime Greenwich Village resident and affiliate of St. Joseph's Academy. This needlepoint has been in the family's possession since his death in 1940. Dimensions: Sight - 21'' high x 16.75'' wide. Condition: Overall good condition; frame as is - some water damage which did not affect needlework.
