Thomas Jefferson & James Madison Signed Land Grant Plus Lot of 2 including: ?Land grant 1p vellum approx. 11.5 x 15.5 in. Washington (DC) 14 March 1804. Signed by Thomas Jefferson (President 1801-1809) and James Madison (Secretary of State 1801-1809 President 1809-1817). For Lieutenant William Evans for 1 076 acres of land in southwestern Ohio. Framed 15.75 x 20 in.?Plus a 3pp?"true" manuscript copy of a land patent from the General Land Office to Lt. Col. Anthony W. White for a tract of land also located in southwestern Ohio dated 1 February 1843 copied from the original patent issued by Thomas Jefferson dated 8 March 1803. Framed 16 x 20 in.Following the Revolutionary War some of the soldiers were compensated for their military service by being presented with patents for land. These lands were granted primarily in what we now know as western Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana and Illinois. The original land grant and "true" copy featured in this lot are both examples of documents presented to soldiers for their service after the war. Out of the tract of land granted to Lieutenant Evans which was located in Union and Oak Run Townships of Madison County a part was purchased by the consignor's ancestor Joseph Bell and a portion of that Joseph Bell tract came to be known as the "Bell Farm." The lot is accompanied by photocopies of manuscript documents regarding the tract of land acquired by the Bell Family plus aerial shots of the land.? Condition: Expected wear along folds of Jefferson/Madison signed document; wear and separation along folds of "true" copy document.?

GEORGE WASHINGTON SIGNED LAND GRANTGEORGE WASHINGTON SIGNED LAND GRANT, on vellum, dated 1796, to Major General Horatio Gates and assignee James Murray for 2,000 acres within the Virginia Military District in what would become Ohio. Signed in brown ink "G. Washington" and signed by Secretary of State "Timothy Pickering." 14" x 12.5" (opening), 22.75" x 20.75" (wood frame). Major General Horatio Gates served in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment for seven years and was awarded the land grant for his service. Gates was born in England in 1727 and served in the British Army for 25 years, including the French and Indian War (1754-1763) in Pennsylvania and New York. In 1773 Gates purchased a plantation and enslaved people in Virginia and later returned to military service during and after the American Revolutionary War and held various positions. Gates served in the New York State Legislature in 1800 and died in 1806.

A Pennsylvania land grant on vellum dated 5-23-1796, granting a property in Lycoming County named "Union Grove" to William Bingham, and signed by Pennsylvania governor and Founding Father Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800). Mifflin was a Philadelphia merchant who was expelled by the Quakers for joining the Continental Army during the American Revolution, in which he served first as one of George Washington's aide-de-camps and then as Quartermaster General. After the Revolution he was the last President of Pennsylvania, succeeding Benjamin Franklin, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, in the course of which he was a Signer of the Constitution, and then the first Governor of Pennsylvania. This document was also signed by the first Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth, James Trimble (1755-1837), and by one Nathaniel Irwin.

A Pennsylvania land grant on vellum dated 5-24-1796, granting a property in Lycoming County named "Langland" to William Bingham, and signed by Pennsylvania governor and Founding Father Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800). Secretarial signed land grant dated January 3 1860 for 120 acres in Missouri in favor of Hermogene Cantrelle who served in the Louisiana Militia during the War of 1812. Condition: Very good.

1790 ALEX. MARTIN SGD. LAND GRANT, NC TNExceptionally early Tennessee land grant, dated 1790 and signed by North Carolina governor Alexander Martin, partially printed document granting 640 acres in Davidson County North Carolina (later Tennessee) on the Harpeth River to Thomas McDaniel, a private in the Continental Line, in consideration of his "signal bravery and persevering zeal". Numbered 1204. It is accompanied by a map of the property surveyed in 1787 and signed by William Nash, witnessed by Frederick Davis (father of John Davis) and Davis Noland. Note: Tennessee became a state in 1796. This is the earliest Middle Tennessee land grant Case has ever offered, and a rare example of Martin's autograph.
