Samuel Bell of the Pomono Potworks in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire took out a patent in 1729 for "red marbled stoneware". Unfortunately the patent didn't hold making specific attribution difficult. Micah Salt (1847-1915) of Buxton, Derbyshire, was a tailor and amateur archaeologist. Much of his collection is retained at the Buxton Museum and the British Museum, London. His large pottery collection and furniture were also sold at auction, reference the Hanley Auction Catalogue,1927, Micah Salt Buxton - Pottery/Furniture.
