With Simon Westman, London, August 2008, 600 pounds ($1,170) From the Collection of Diana Edwards Murnaghan, No. 392 Catalogue note: Ceramics in America - 2003, by Chipstone, p. 195, fig. 12; Ceramics in America - 2003, p. 91, fig. 3. Samuel Bell of the Pomono Potworks in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire took out a patent in 1729 for "red marbled stoneware". Unfortunately the patent didn't hold making specific attribution difficult. Micah Salt (1847-1915) of Buxton, Derbyshire, was a tailor and amateur archaeologist. Much of his collection is retained at the Buxton Museum and the British Museum, London. His large pottery collection and furniture were also sold at auction, reference the Hanley Auction Catalogue,1927, Micah Salt Buxton - Pottery/Furniture.

The bird vessel 8 x 13 1/4 x 9 in.
Condition
The bird vessel with a repaired spout and a few small hairline cracks along the rim, and an encrusted surface. The bowl with a 4 in. hairline crack, minor losses to the handles and spout. Surface abrasions and wear on all three pieces. The flask with losses to the rim and a 5 in. hairline with associated veins on the body. Minor nicks throughout. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
