LOT OF SIOUX KNIFE CASE & KNIFE, LATE 19TH CENTURY. (1) Knife case: Western Sioux made numbers of knife cases that are squared at the bottom rather than pointed. A particular knife that was stored in such a case was held fast at the handle area by the upper portion of the case. This case is constructed of thin, native tanned cowhide. Front is fully beaded in the lane stitch technique - typical for knife cases, in that one third of the case at top can be viewed as a beaded cuff; the beadwork of lower two thirds contrasts markedly in designs and colors to the upper portion. A row of metal cones with red-dyed fluffy feathers inserted in each separates these two panels. Unbeaded back panel consists of two pieces of native tanned hide hand stitched together. Color palette of this case suggests that it originates from the Hunkpapa or Yanktonai of the Standing Rock Reservation - where Sitting Bull and his people were settled. Size: 7" long. CONDITION: Hide exhibits dermestid damage; minor bead loss, some metal cones and fringes missing. (2) Knife: Handmade butcher knife with wooden handle inlaid with lead or pewter; long blade slightly upturned at tip. Size: 13-3/4" long. CONDITION: Short crack in handle at blade, blade badly rusted, tip broken. 4-55166 (1,000-1,500)

WWII ENGLISH SYKES-FAIRBAIRN BRASS KNIFE W/ SHEATHNorthwestern Europe, England, ca. 1941 CE. This is a fine example of the popular second pattern of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife with the "B2" guard marking. The brass handle and steel blade are designed like a small stiletto sword: a sharp double-edged blade, prominent midrib, tapered tip, and a thick handle that has a knurled surface for superior grip. The oval cross guard is stamped "ENGLAND" on one end with the broad arrow emblem and "B2" on the other. The original leather sheath is stamped "ENGLAND" on the flap and a bass chape cap protects he leather from the blade - which is still very sharp! Size (knife): 11.25" L x 2" W (28.6 cm x 5.1 cm); (blade): 6.3" L x 1" W (16 cm x 2.5 cm)
The knife was designed by William Fairbairn and Eric Sykes during the 1930s and then adopted and used by British Special Forces during WWII, later models are still in service today. The knife’s length was designed specifically for armed conflicts with the idea that the blade must pass through up to 3 inches of thick combat clothing before reaching and penetrating the skin of the opponent. While shiny knives glinting in the distance are known to psychologically intimidate, the raids conducted at night relied on surprise, and these second pattern knives were blackened for stealth.

Yellowstone Elk Scrimshaw Damascus M. T. Knives: This is an original Montana Territory Knives of Bozeman, Montana knife with an excellent, Yellowstone National Park inspired, Bull Elk scrimshaw artwork. This knife is truly a work of “Montana” art as it shows a large standing bull elk set on Buffalo Horn grips and a forged “rustic” Damascus, a tribute to the wilderness of our state and scrimshaw artwork of Native American Indian heritage. The blade has been forged from 1095HC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon, which is then heated and folded into 396 layers, creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful ladder Damascus pattern. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of nice white wild Buffalo bone grip scales, which are secured to the piece using two mosaic pins and lanyard loop. The tang and knife spine have been artfully hand vine filled. The grips have also artfully been scrimshaw etched with an image of a standing elk. The knife is in brand new condition. The blade is marked with the “MONTANA TERRITORY KNIVES BOZEMAN MONTANA” stamping, which shows the outline of Montana. The knife has been paired with a Great American Bison Buffalo leather, hand crafted sheath. The knife measures 7 1/2" long overall, with the blade being 4" long. The sheath and knife together measure 8 1/4" long.

FOSSILIZED DINOSAUR BONE HANDLE & DAMASCUS STEEL KNIFENorth America, Western United States, ca. 21st century CE. An impressive knife made from Damascus steel with a lovely, watered pattern and a handsome handle made of fossilized dinosaur bone. The single-edged knife features a tapered blade edge and an upturned and pointed tip opposite a thick spine. The tang is covered with a brass bolster and the handle panels are carved from fossilized dinosaur bone of lilac, blue, black, and mauve hues. The remarkable coloration is a result of agatization - the bone material replaced with silica creating the marbled crystalline surface of cell structures. The bone likely came from a sauropod dinosaur during the late Jurassic period in the Morrison Formation. This knife is indeed made to be used- the blade is very sharp- and comes with a cloth and fleece lined zipper case. Size: 8" L x 1.5" W (20.3 cm x 3.8 cm); blade only: 4.125" L x 1.5" W (10.5 cm x 3.8 cm)
